Regular readers of this space will know that I feel very strongly about shop opening hours. I believe that shops should open as much as possible during the busy summer months. At the moment only shops in the Jaime III area of Palma are allowed to open by the council on a Sunday, a disastrous state of affairs but I suppose it is better than nothing.

Palma should open 7 days a week. Also, businesses should not close for siesta. However, none of this can happen without employment regulations being modernised in Spain as the system is stuck in a time long gone.
S. Have you ever employed staff / people in Spain ?.
One less attraction for Winter tourism. Another reason to fail Cruise passengers, on short day visits. The Council need to be held to account, in allowing only a few shops to open on Sunday. Should more staff be employed?. Perhaps part time. There could be Saturday/Sunday staff,. School leavers etc. Reducing employment. Palma, the best City to live in ?.--- Something is radically wrong, with who coined that phrase. Were they blind I wonder.
Whilst on holiday, I would find it very useful to be able to buy an english local paper, seven days a week. I note that the spanish newspapers are published daily, including on Sundays. Couldn´t the Daily Bulletin do this as well, at least during the high season, when most of it´s readers are here on holiday ?.
I suspect wee Jason will have forgotten all about this by the time he makes his way home after a hard six-hour day slaving over a hot laptop. He certainly won't have in the forefront of his mind the retail staff with aching feet, still standing after a 12-hour shift. Nor, I further suspect, will he have a box of red tape paperwork to get through before bedtime just in order to stay open that bit longer.3, 2, 1…. and you're back in the room, Jason.
Jason, Do you know anyone who runs a business that HAS to employ staff to be able to look after their customers knowledgably and efficiently ?.If so, do they open at weekends, and if not, what reasons have they given you not to do so ?.I think I know the answer, but lets hear what you have to say first.
