More greenery and less wood for the Paseo Marítimo.

Work on the removal of the wooden walkway on Alcudia's Paseo Marítimo is due to start this week. The wood features of the port were introduced when the old marina-side road was pedestrianised at the turn of the century, but the walkway has proved to be an ever-increasing headache. It is difficult to maintain and it is the cause of occasional injuries through slipping (especially when wet) or tripping on a slat.

The Balearic Port Authority, which owns this part of the port area, is spending almost half a million euros on replacing the wood with what will be more green areas. The work is due to take two months and will need to ready not just in time for the start of the season but also the boat show and gastronomy fair in April.
