It is not totally uncommon for there to be snow on the mountains in April, but it can still come as a bit of a surprise. The April weather is not always consistent, it has to be said, and yesterday provided evidence of how capricious it can sometimes be. Temperatures plunged during the day to, for example, seven degrees in Palma. Meanwhile, the rain was such that Puerto Pollensa experienced the greatest volume - 28.4 litres per square metre. And the rain fell as snow on the peaks at around 1100 metres.

This wintery blast will prove to be shortlived. Today (Saturday) the forecast is for fine, sunny weather, and the general outlook for the next few days is for similar, with temperatures edging into the twenties.
