A forest fire alarm in the Mola de Tuent near Sa Calobra was raised this morning by a fisherman. Crews from Inca and Soller went to the scene around 05.00, and two hours later a level one alert was declared because of two properties in the vicinity. These have not had to be evacuated though.

Strong winds and the steep pine forest were hampering efforts to bring the fire under control. The mayor of Escorca, Toni Solivellas, said this morning that the fire was widespread.

At quarter past two in the afternoon, the risk was reduced to level zero. Three fire engines and a helicopter have been used.

At 16.20, the Ibanat agency declared that the fire was under control and that 8.6 hectares (just over 21 acres) of scrub had been affected.
