Next month, Palma is going to be hosting the first ever Legends Cup which is part of the ATP’s Champions Tour. The tournament, which will run from 8 to 11 October at the newly renovated Palma Sport and Tennis Club is going to feature some of the greatest players in tennis history, not to mention local and British heroes Carlos Moya and Tim Henman.

The tournament is the only event on this professional tennis circuit to be held in Spain and will bring together other great tennis professionals of the likes of Sergi Bruguera, Wimbledon champion Pat Cash, Henri Laconte,  Thomas Enqvist, Mikael Pernfors and Mansour Bahrami, all of whom have already confirmed their attendance.

To be eligible to take part in ATP Champions Tour events, players must be retired from the ATP Professional circuit, have been the world no. 1 in the ATP rankings, or have taken part in a Grand Slam final or a Davis Cup final as a singles player on the winning team. The director of the event and owner of the Palma Sport centre, leading hotelier Mikael Landström, said at yesterday’s official presentation that he is extremely proud that the new centre is going to be hosting such a prestigious sporting event and that the Cup will be played again in Palma next October.
