Dear Sir, I think the proposal that householders sort their rubbish into categories is an impractical idea. Life is already complicated enough and it simply would not be done.

The council should employ cheap immigrant labour to do the sorting at the tips. It would not be pleasant work but there would be no shortage of volunteers. And why should we not help such people with a wage and prospect of a better future? If protective clothing were provided and showers so that they could clean-up at the end of the working day it would not be too bad for them.

On the outskirts of Cairo, poor people are happy enough to sort through the rubbish without pay just for the pickings they can find and sell.
Yours faithfully
