Dear Sir,
I read with interest the article in your paper dated 23rd April stating that numbers are down for this season by about 14% from the U.K.
I am not surprised that this is so as my wife and I decided to come to your island for our 4th visit and after September 11th expected that the costs would be down in fact it is UP by about £200.00 or about 14% with the threat of a tax when we arrive, it is the tour operators who are killing Majorca.

Local powers out of touch

Dear Sir,
Your weekend headline “End of the road” shows just how out of touch our local powers that be are.
In one breath we are being told there are too many cars - so what do they do?
1. Make Palma a building site (a continual nuisance) by building more car parking spaces.
2. Say “use the bus”. Who wants to wait without a shelter or seating - exposed to rain or sun for buses that arrive late or full, if they arrive at all.

3. Without services which are, or should be, the most profitable.
Residents without transport must be wondering “what next?” and potential tourists - no buses, no hire cars “why bother?” let's go somewhere else where the saying “a tourist a friend” means just that.
