Listening to the TV news yesterday it appears that Britain is split on whether or not troops should be deployed on the streets of Britain. The simple truth is that they are needed to keep Britain safe and I can’t understand why anyone would question their deployment. The last time British troops were on the streets of London was during the Olympics and everyone agreed that the operation was a great success. If British troops can free up police officers to continue with their investigations then it is an excellent idea.

But there are some who would say that soldiers on the streets of Britain is not "the British way" but these old-fashioned views and comments have no place in a world which is trying to battle terrorism on a large scale. I am sure that the British public will be pleased to see soldiers on patrol because at the moment there are major concerns over security. French troops have been patrolling Paris for years and have helped avert a number of terror attacks. It is evident by the decision to bring in the army that the police are overstretched and perhaps there is a role for the army in policing Britain for years to come.

This is yet another example why Britain needs a strong military, not just to protect its borders but the country within. Soldiers are obviously going to need specialised training and funding, and this has to be forthcoming. Now is the time to try and keep Britain safe. Everything else is of secondary importance.
