Don't bite the hand that feeds you. This would be my advice to the small number of people who appear to be opposed to tourism. Over recent months there has been a slight backlash against tourism: nothing big but there should be some concern especially as it has been widely reported across Europe.

Driving around during the last week in South West Mallorca, I thought the resorts looked empty for August. Many, many restaurants, bars, shops, terraces ... with no one on them and few people walking around. So the season is not great at all. Mid September is here in 45 days and then the season is really coming to a close.I do wish survival for all those struggling businesses.
Palma a ghost town in January? Oh come on, let's not exaggerate! Other parts of the island yes but not Palma!

All we can hope is that the people using illegal methods of opposing tourism are dealt with appropriately, then send Barcelo on a long holiday while other politicians and tourism personnel make the correct welcoming noises. A good start would be to abolish the tourist tax to save its administration costs and to put the money instead into the local community as holiday-makers spend it in shops, bars, restaurants and on attractions to multiply the effects of their spending. Some sort of compromise on the stranglehold of totally inclusive hotel groups needs to be achieved, although I appreciate that families on a tight budget need to know they are covered for main meals but NOT free alcohol
Tourists today are no longer regarded as friends. They are regarded as " Terrorists ".The treatment of today's " Terrorists " , is based on bad receptions and manners. Because "All Inclusive " takes all their money.Any self employed business is desperate for income from visitors. With the Pound Euro exchange rate at almost one to one. Mallorca is becoming very expensive .
