An unusual holiday season. At the start of the year the Balearic government was telling anyone that would listen that it would be a record season, probably one of the best ever. Fast forward the clock and the reality is that it has been a season when the islands welcomed a record number of tourists but their spending power has been low, according to initial estimates. It was also a holiday season which saw the first backlash against tourism, with minor protests taking place in Palma. British tourism will have dropped this season, the fall in the value of sterling has made the Balearics an expensive holiday destination for some. I suspect that this will be a trend which will continue over the coming months, especially as Turkey and other competing resorts offer great value for money.

Instead of trying to make the tourist conform to what this government wants, try to provide what the tourist wants. With Tunisia coming back on stream from next Spring, 2018 could be a year that will make 2017 look like a bonanza.
I rather think that this is the beginning of the end for Majorca,what with the lowest rate ever,anti-tourist protests and graffiti,long airport queues and generally being blamed for all your problems and made to feel unwelcome,a great many of us won't be back again for some time,if ever so you and your politicians will soon know what it is like without ''massification..
Calvia resorts have been quiet. Speaking to many businesses, the season has been very poor.
VALUE FOR MONEY is becoming the key expression for the British. Especially as the Pound has fallen to a very low level of exchange against the Euro. Those in Euro Countries may be experiencing an increase in pricing. But the British have had a greatly reduced spending power.
