It's being described as a "black swan" event, something that comes as a surprise and which can only then be rationalised in hindsight, but Donald Trump - despite all the predictions - is to become the 45th president of the United States of America.

Although not all states have yet declared, Hillary Clinton has called Trump to concede defeat.

President-elect Trump has been gracious to Clinton in praising her hard work as secretary of state and her hard-fought campaign. He has pledged to rebuild the nation by bringing everyone together for the American Dream. "It's going to be a beautiful thing ... The forgotten men and women will be forgotten no more ... America will no longer settle for anything but the best."

Markets in Asia have taken a dive as news of a likely Trump victory has emerged.
