The Guardia Civil's nature protection servicce Seprona has filed a complaint against the captain of a British-flagged ship, blamed for an illegal oil spill on the docks. The 40-metre boat, with a mainly British crew, arrived on Thursday and it is alleged that while they were changing the oil, 50 litres spilt into the water of the bay. Since the case was reported, Seprona has been taking samples of water to test the extent of the pollution and these samples have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. The Guardia Civil also spoke to the captain, and warned him that he could be fined. Last year, Seprona investigated 42 complaints of oil spills off the Balearics. Most of the cases ended in fines.
