Eight young Nigerian residents have been arrested by the drug squad in Palma accused of drugs trafficking. The investigation leading up to the arrests was mounted a few weeks ago with each of the eight being put under surveillance. The first move by the police was made on Monday when five of the Nigerians were arrested and a house in Palma searched by the drug squad. Cocaine, hashish, bits of plastic used for “cutting” lines of cocaine, cash and small weighing scales were confiscated by the police. Further evidence found at the scene led police to the three other suspects, who were arrested later. Last night the gang of eight was being held in police cells and the police are investigating whether or not they were manipulating a number of juveniles and using them to push and deliver the drugs in the Playa de Palma area. One of the charges the police are planning to also file against the group is that they were using youngsters in the area to carry out petty crimes, such as pickpocketing, for them.
