Its certainly not Rio but some children in Palma are taking it just as seriously. Carnival time has kicked off in Majorca and over the next few days parades will be taking place across the island. Costumes, which are rented for the day, can cost a sizeable sum of money. This year you will find the usual character ranging from the Teletubbies to the Spice Girls. Carnivals of this type have been taking place for centuries but the custom was re-launched after the death of former dictator Franco.
