Cuba is looking to take advantage of Balearic know-how in the tourism industry and launch the embattled Carribean estate as a mass tourist destination which could one day rival the Balearics. A Cuban delegation is in Majorca at the moment searching for investment and help. The Cuban authorities are looking for investment up to 6.6 billion U.S. dollars in the industry over the next 10 years, for building more hotels, golf courses and other facilities needed to sustain a large tourist industry. Balearic hotel chains have already invested heavily in Cuba over the last few years with the Sol Group being one of the principal investors. The Castro government gives all sorts of facilities for companies wanting to invest in the country. Already, Cuba is exceptionally popular with Spanish tourists.
