It ain´t half hot mum!

If you didn't know better you would have thought that a group of British World War 2 veterans had occupied the San Carlos Castle, just off the Dique del Oeste in Palma. They certainly looked the part. All that was missing was Vera Lynn singing in the background and a Spitfire flying overhead. Even the Union Flag had been raised on the flag-pole of the Fort. San Carlos is now a museum but for centuries it was the headquarters of the Spanish Army. This army had been recruited for a Channel 4 film based on an Eveyln Waugh trilogy set against the back-drop of war-torn Europe during the Second World War. Majorca is going to be used as the setting for scenes set in Egypt, Crete, and France. More than 1'000 extras have been recruited for the four-hour drama which will be shown on Channel 4 at Christmas. Apart from all the extras, a number of World War II fighters are expected to be flown down to the island. It is probably one of the biggest films ever to be made in Majorca. Channel 4 are keeping details of the film, even its name, a closely guarded secret but all should be revealed tomorrow when a press conference is expected to be called. Local film company Palma Pictures is playing a leading role. Majorca's very diverse landscape makes it an ideal place for film production. Even the weather brightened for the first day of filming yesterday.
