Just four days after gas and electricity company GESA confirmed that all the region's power supply was back to normal with just one fault left to repair at the Es Murterar power station in Alcudia, the power plant was yesterday hit by a small fire and over 30 regions of Majorca left without power. This latest incident happened at 10.47 am and GESA confirmed yesterday afternoon at 17.45 that the area of the power station and machinery which had to be shut down because of the fire, has all be brought back into full operation. GESA planned to carry out another series of power cuts around the island last night so as to reduce demand in order to repair the latest incident, however, engineers managed to bring the plant back into full operation during the afternoon. When the small fire was reported, part of the Alcudia plant was shut down manually for security and safety reasons and forced GESA to bring all the emergency generators in to operation. However, even with the back up supply in operation, 30 municipalities lost power. Engineers suspect that the small, fire was caused by flammable liquid, but an exhaustive inspection of the plant and the scene of the fire is being carried out.
