The Cesar apartment block in Santa Ponça was evacuated yesterday after a fire broke out in one of the flats. The fire in Calle Ramon de Montcada broke out mid-morning and as a preventive measure roads were sealed off and residents told to leave. Eye-witnesses said that the flames spread quickly and soon the middle part of the block was engulfed in flames. No-one was injured but the apartment where the fire broke out was gutted. Firemen battled with the flames for close to an hour. After hosing the flames from the exterior, firemen wearing breathing apparatus entered the building. The fire brigade has launched an inquiry to establish the exact causes of the fire. The photographs we publish here were taken by an amateur photographer who was nearly arrested taking our exclusive shots.
