The PSM Majorcan Socialist Party Palma city councillors yesterday struck out at those responsible for cleaning the capital. Last month Palma residents voted the city the fifth dirtiest in Spain and the local council has come under fire from all directions to clean up its act and the capital. The council blamed building work and tourists, but opposition councillors have called for shock clean up tactics. The PSM yesterday hit out at EMAYA, the municipal water board which is responsible for cleaning the city, expressing its disbelief that the company has failed to meet the cleaning requisits set out by the city council. The three biggest complaints from the city's population was the piles of rubbish on the streets, dog excrement and graffiti. The city council has launched a series of campaigns to encourage dog owners to be more responsible, but it appears to have failed.
