The CRCS air sea rescue service was yesterday called out to rescue the crews off two vessels in Balearic waters. The first emergency involved a Puerto Portals-based catamaran which capsized with two crew members on board early yesterday afternoon. The crew was rescued and the vessel towed into the marina at Cala Nou. Later, the CRCS was called out to a yacht which had suffered mechanical problems near the Port of Mahon and was adrift in high seas with four crew on board. The Minorcan CRCS unit carried out the rescue operation - plucked the four crew to safety and returned with a salvage vessel to tow the yacht into port. Last night the Civil Protection department re-issued a weather warning for today with high winds, reaching 80 kilometres per hour, forecast to hit the islands accompanied by heavy rain which will be torrential at times.
