The new ORA (restriced parking) charges came into force yesterday, the first working day of the New Year. The cost of parking for one hour and for 90 minutes has gone up by ten pesetas, but the price for half an hour remains the same as last year, at 50 pesetas. An hour's parking in the blue zone now costs 100 pesetas compared to 90 pesetas last year, while the charge for 90 minutes has gone up from 140 to 150 pesetas. The price for cancelling the fine also goes up by ten pesetas to 550 pesetas. The new taxi fares, which should have come into force yesterday are still not being applied. The new fares are not expected to be introduced until the end of the month, providing they are approved by the prices committee, a department of the Balearic finance ministry, and published in the Official Balearic Gazette, according to city councillor José Manuel Sierra.
