The partial closing of Calle General Riera because of the construction of a car park and tunnel in Avenida Comte Sallent caused serious traffic problems in the Avenidas during rush hour yesterday. According to Local Police sources, closing of General Riera in one direction, which entered into force yesterday, forced most drivers to detour via Calle Jesus, as the city council had recommended. This meant that the road was carrying heavier traffic than usual at school times, and police found it hard to cope with the chaos, which was much greater than had been expected. In an effort to ease the situation, the police have decided to crack down on double parking outside the Luis Vives school, which in normal circumstances is tolerated. Extra traffic police will be on point duty while the road works are in progress.
