The number of jobless registered at the INEM (National Institute of Employment) in the Balearics at the end of February dropped by 1'682 persons compared to January, bringing the total down to 29'236 or 8.62 per cent of the work force. According to ministry of labour figures, the drop was 5.44 per cent, the biggest throughout Spain and way above the average for the country, where unemployment dropped by only 1.34 per cent. The work force is still dominated by men - 971 found work last month compared to only 711 women, and only 5.46 per cent of the male work force was jobless compared to nearly 13 per cent of women.
