The S.A.R. Princess Sophia-Majorica Trophy kicked off on Thursday in Palma and sailing stars have been pouring into Majorca to prepare for the event. The annual regatta, whose organisational base is at Real Club Nautico, began with Cruiser Sailing races, which will continue until the 8th of April and include King Juan Carlos as one of its competitors. Participants in the cruiser classes were registering on Thursday at the race office in RCN, ready for races which began at 14:30 yesterday afternoon and continue over the weekend. The Cruiser Trophy is the pre runner to the Dinghy Class Regatta, also part of the Princess Sophia event. The Olympic Class Regatta Season is warming up here in Palma - The first stop on a twelve-week campaign which will see Olympic squads competing from around the globe. After leaving Palma, the teams will move on to Hyeres (France), SPA (Netherlands) and Kiel (Germany). Olympic squads for many different classes are together in Palma, including Lasers, Europes, Tornados, 470*s, 420*s and 49ers. The regattas are being held across the South Majorcan coastline, from Palma to Arenal and San Antonio De Playa.
