There were no more thick clouds of black smoke billowing up above Andratx yesterday, just the smell of 40 hectares of charred and burnt woodland. The forest fire, which started in the early hours of Saturday morning, was finally brought under control and extinguished by nearly 100 firemen with aerial support from a Canadair plane, two helicopters and two smaller fire fighter planes, on Sunday evening, some 30 hours after the blaze, fuelled by Saturday's winds, first started.
