Mayor of Calvia Margarita Nájera was cornered by taxi drivers at the municipal radio station yesterday, and had to be escorted from the building by the Local Police. More than 50 taxi drivers showed up at the radio station with their cabs, surrounding the Radio Calvia building to prevent Nájera from leaving and insulting her. Ten police officers escorted the Mayor to the back door to avoid heckling from the crowd of irate cabbies. The cabbies want the council to change its posture over negotiations for more taxi licences. They expressed their regret that the Mayor had not taken the opportunity to talk to them. Speaking over the municipal radio station, Nájera said that the taxi sector had to be regulated from the prism of a public service, thinking about the benefit of citizens as a whole.
