I guess I never ate at those restaurants, my memories of Soller are the train carriage from Palma being full of Germans along with the town and all the shop assistants greeting me in German! My favourite restaurant is run by a Norwegian, whose staff are from the EU...I suppose she has to shut down and get out of town now...No? It's interesting to hear the change in narrative in the Canaries, where I believe they've learned to tone down the anti-tourism angle...and not the anti-English one I'm getting online. Maybe we can do a tourist exchange, I'm sure that'll solve all these problems... ;-)

AmbergrilloFully agree. Stop the bloody whining and blame tourism for whatever in your life went wrong or isn’t to your liking. Most of the issues highlighted are experienced in popular places and cities around the world. Do I complain about all the Spanish in New York or Texas where many hardly speak English? Get a life and look around.

I’ve just seen these two TikTok’ers in Burger King, one was eating a Whopper the other (as per the menu) a Crazy Bacon doble Crispy Chicken, both drinking (as per the menu) a Monster Energy Green zero Sugar.

Why have a menu in Spanish if they are too poor to eat there? They are too busy having second rate cheap menu del dia's. Also I agree with TC, in general your average Mallorcan restaurant is vastly inferior to those on the mainland fact. I'm a foody and do gastro holidays to places like Girona, Tokyo and Copenhagen. There are only a handful of decent restaurants in Mallorca, if you disagree, you know nothing about food.

There are menus in restaurants only in Arabic in the west end of London. It's a disgrace. By all means show other languages but in Spain the menu must at least be in Spanish.

Fake news. Restaurant has menu in spanish, catalan, german and english.

@chris g Hi Chris. Ahh. No I don't. I have been living and working and SUPPORTING mallorca going on 30 years. Paying lots of taxes every month. Nobody is "hosting" me here. I do agree with many of the "locals" complaints. To many tourists, cars, etc.. But this is a government problem. This is where all the social problems begin. The" locals "need to focus there and make there elected politicians actually do something for them. (And for all of us living here) And stop crying/blaming other people (tourists) for there problems.

user Izabela2106 | about 6 hours ago

I fully agree that it is a disgrace. Locals are kind enough to be using Spanish here and not only catalan (like often happens in restaurants in barcelona). So menus and service in local language first, then english and German as most used and whatever other language you want... BTW...- there are places that have their menus in German only as well

AmbergrilloYou really need to learn to be a little more sympathetic to the concerns of the people who are hosting you here. Their concerns are very real and if not addressed properly will badly affect this beautiful place in the long term for locals and the foreign residents.

Full credit to these people for exposing this. If restaurants in Soller, or anywhere else, are indeed only offering menus in English, or if none of their staff speak Spanish and Catalan then they fully deserve to be called out on social media and ridiculed.
