Daniel HerreroDaniel, I nearly believed you are an American despite your name, as you are loudmouth, brash and very arrogant! The quicker you zip your mouth up, the better. Luckily for me I have always in my 50 years only met nice polite and pleasant locals here. I hope i never have the bad luck to ever meet such a rude uncouth person like you.

Now they complain about people staying in their own properties and missing out on tourist tax. I guess they forget those people has to pay council taxes. Is that not enough? I'm sick and tired even to read about the hoteliers and their "missing" two millions!

Daniel HerreroSo, in your theory, the same must apply to those from the peninsular, Germans, Dutch, French, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Swiss, Russian, every country from Latin America, and anyone from the African and Asian continents. If anything, judging from the ruido outside my house all hours of the night it is the Mallorquíns who are the worst offenders.

I call BS. I get dozens of visitors, siblings, nieces/nephews, children with girl/boyfriends, all who would appear as "tourists" and none of whom stay in hotels or rented apartment. And who is a "tourist" anyhow? Any foreign national transiting through PMI or arriving on a ferry in excess of registered hotel check-ins? Resident, homeowner? If so I account for at least ten of those two million just by myself.

ChrisHis comment is certainly exaggerative, over-generalised and unnecessarily insulting. Yet I suspect may be as you say, a response to the Brit-centricity of so many articles (and commentary) here and in other British media. As if everything is all about Brits. Stereotypical British insularity. Yet with respect to Spanish tourism, it's true that it's hardly dependent on Brits (a declining part of tourism in Spain, and especially in the Balearics), nor is the anti-tourism movement a "punishment" on Brits as British media likes to imply. It sounds suspiciously like just affirmation of British importance, which to the rest of the world, appears rather desperate. And it's not as if there's no confirmation bias in the common stereotypes that resemble his insulting commentary. The reputation of British tourists isn't all that great to begin with. And his characterisation is clearly an unfair exaggeration of those stereotypes. Really, this one is a bit off the rails. He deserves the backlash.

ChrisIt seems..... the guy is xenophobic, does not have a family to support, comes from an affluent background and has no need to work. Also, over opinionated and less educated than he wants you to believe. Either that or he is a plant, a bot, an infiltrator, whetever its called nowadays.

Charlie CoolThose childish insults aimed at Daniel Herrero are uncalled for. You would do well to actually listen to the genuine concerns of our hosts and neighbours here. Daniel’s comments I’m guessing are borne out of frustration at the attitude of some foreigners like you. Some respect rather than arrogant insults would be the mature, respectful approach.

Daniel HerreroTypical little-islander mentality. What a sad, tiny minded person you are.

I have had a home in Mallorca for 16 years, I can only spend 90 days in 180 within the EU so I come and go far more frequently than I would like to, and when I am not using my home you can be dam sure I allow my children, their friends and my extended family and friends to stay there. None of us are "missing" I can assure you
