Where on earth do you go in Mallorca Dawn? I can only think of a couple of places in the whole island that fit your description of noise and even then only a few streets. Your rant makes it out that the island is a complete riot. Well I stay in Paguera and visit towns round about , San Telm and Port Andraxt to name a couple and I can assure you it's very peaceful indeed. Wait a minute! Maybe I'm going deaf.

Dear Mr Barcelo, You are living in Cloud Cuckoo land if you think that Mallorca is a quiet and peaceful island. It IS but only in the winter. From April until October it is an island that is full of noise pollution from all the bars, restaurants and hotels competing with each other to see who can play the loudest music from 7 pm until midnight. The residents cannot sit outside and enjoy a quiet drink under the stars nor can they sit inside watching televison. The noise is all intrusive. On a bad day you wish that an earthquake would occur so that the noise will stop. 20 years ago we were told that all entertainment would be held indoors but that was just another empty promise. As for the Police checking the decibel levels - this was simply to pacify the people who take the trouble to complain. You hold the power, Mr Barcelo, please do something about this most insidious form of pollution and make a lot of people who pay their taxes, very happy.

Sr. Barceló does not speak to anyone outside of his 'clique'. He may have given this interview to the MDB to try any pacify the tourists, and give the impression that bad feeling had nothing to do with him. As usual he passes the problems on, without dealing with anything himself. He mentions Punta Ballena and Playa de Palma as being the only problem areas. He neglects to mention Palma with the issues of apartments where his puppet Noguera is in charge of destroying the liviehoods of the residents who rent, forcing tourists into mega expensive boutique hotels, yet again sucking up to the hoteliers. And of course they'll all be off on their overseas 'beanos' very soon.

Re more winter tourists: The last airline flying direct to Mahon from UK has just gone bust! Flying to Menorca will involve changing at Barcelona where political turmoil reigns. If you ever get to the island everything will be shut anyway . Why bother?

And then he woke up.

What is this guy smoking. No I don't feel made unwelcome by the restaurant and bar workers or the shopkeepers and other locals trying to get on with their lives. I do feel not welcome by the constant barrage of anti-tourist rants from the Government and attendant fleecing at every opportunity. I do feel unwelcome that the type of property I would prefer to stay in has been made unavailable and I do feel unwelcome that a small minority of left wing lunatics who can't get through the day without hating something seem to have gained such power over so many

George, most spanish ???

user George | over 7 years ago

Most Spanish are soon to be starting their six month vacation of late mornings, coffee in the sunshine, a cycle ride, a chat over the papers etcWhilst the British pack themselves into trains from the Home Counties in the dark, do a full day at work, eating their Pret sandwich at the desk and return exhausted for another hour + on the train in the dark. Then battle the cold with a hat and a scarf to their front door. To begin again 10 hours later. Who has got it right? ? ?

As most hotels close during the winter, why not allow people to rent out their empty houses and apartments. This would be a win win all round.
