I think previous comments have summed it all up, the Balearic islands whose GDP is 80% tourism have shown how shallow they are by trying to promote a business in the middle of a world pandemic.Currently the whole of Europe is in lockdown, people are not working, like a large population on the islands and hence not earning to spend on a holiday yet alone to pay the bills that mount up due to the loss of income. This attitude is, Carry on regardless, unfortunately once this is all over can people afford to come to the Balearic islands, will they now be looking harder to find holidays at other destinations based on a limited budget. Now is the time for the Balearic islands to act and be seen to want tourists, how about scrapping tourists tax, with an empty airport would it not be time to install 'ultra violet far c' lighting designed to kill airborne viruses being safe to humans.Let's face it, travel must be responsible for the spread of the viruses and airports a petri dish of bacteria and let's not say that some of the hundreds of millions of Euros raised in tourist tax could not be spent on Tourists safety.
So Mallorca has had an anti tourism campaign for however long. Ban air Bnb to protect the hotels. Ban boats from anchoring. Ban all inclusive ( probably good ) tourist tax etc etc etc. Suddenly it wants tourists back. Be careful what you wish for.
And how, exactly are these "visitors" going to find the money for holidays ? So many people are now not working due to the current health situation and are wondering how they are going to buy food, pay bills and rent or mortgage. I´m sure that an expensive trip to Mallorca is well down their list of priorities.
#seeyouin2021. After 80% of bars and restaurants have closed down.
Cancelled all trips for this year. Might be back in 2021.
And last year Mallorca complained there were too many tourists!
A cynic might say the tens of millions of loyal visitors who have been taken for granted who come to your island every year. Totally the wrong time to even be considering such a campaign. In the U.K. we are waiting for a massive peak in the number of infections and my main concern about Mallorca is seeing a drop in the number of cases and hhealth making a gradual return for your citizens.
This COVID19 virus isn’t going to go away quickly! It will be back in the AUTUM -It will be next year 2021 before we can travel
Summer 2020 will be completely wiped out. See you in 2021
I'm certain that when Europe emerges from the current crisis that there are many travel businesses, hotels, apartments, airlines, agents, transport, guides, leisure activity providers, who will be out of business for good. So how exactly are potential tourists to Mallorca expected to make firm plans this side of 2021. Right now it's difficult to get refunds for trips already cancelled by the airlines and transport. So where's the money coming from?
