Nil-nil for Mallorca in Elche.

15-04-2018JDHR

Almost a top-of-the table clash, the league leaders away in Elche against the team seven points behind them in third spot.

Elche striker Benja should have scored when one-on-one with Mallorca keeper Reina in the 14th minute but instead shot wide. Apart from a couple of efforts - one of them from López that went well wide following a fine centre by Bonilla - Mallorca created very little during a first half in which Elche were the better side.

Soon after the break, Collantes failed to make more of good work by Benja and Flores as Elche started to exert greater control. Nino, a minute after coming on a sub, shot a loose ball in the area over Reina's bar, and Elche had a penalty appeal turned down for a Sastre challenge on Josán. Another sub, Sory Kaba, beat two Mallorca defenders but messed up his shot and four minutes later (just before the end of normal time) he had another great chance that Reina blocked. In between time, Mallorca's Bonilla received his second yellow, and then in added time so did López. Nine-man Mallorca held on for a valuable away point.

Big improvements are needed for next season ( if we get promoted ) The last dozen or so games have not been too inspiring

An away point against fellow challengers seems like a decent result to me. Pity about the two sent off, will affect selection for next game, but opportunity knocks for whoever steps in! Team MUST CONCENTRATE for 90 minutes, and get maximum points in home games, nearly blew it last week when they had a commanding lead.
