Lastminute.com reports that three Majorcan resorts are among the top ten for number of bookings by British holidaymakers this summer. The three are Magalluf (in fourth spot), Alcudia (seventh) and Palmanova (tenth). Benidorm heads the list, in which only two resorts are not Spanish - Albufeira (Portugal) and Nice. The other four Spanish resorts are Sant Antoni (Ibiza), Torremolinos, Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife).

The website report also suggests that there is a 38% increase in bookings for all-inclusive holidays, there having been a 28% rise in 2017.

As for reasons for choosing a Spanish destination, Lastminute says that 48% of British holidaymakers rate "having a good time" as being the most important factor. This is followed by the friendliness and extrovert character of local people (33%), gastronomy (29%) and cultural diversity (24%).

A separate report, one that was produced for London's World Travel Market in November last year, suggests that one in ten British holidaymakers are influenced by what they see on television. The holiday decision can therefore be made because of watching the comedy series Benidorm or reality shows such as Love Island, which was filmed in Majorca.
