Caricaturist Bibi opens JoanArt 2024, the annual meeting with the art world that returns to Calvia. | Youtube: Ajuntament de Calvià
From June 21 to 25, JoanArt Calvià returns, the most summery cultural event in Calvià vila that reaches its tenth edition.
The the starting signal for the events will be given by the well-known caricaturist Bibi, alias of Josep Bibiloni Palmer, who will open an exhibition on his nine years as a contributor to the Majorca Daily Bulletin.
The exhibition opens to the public at 7pm in the exhibition hall of the Town Hall and can be visited until the 24th of July, Monday to 24 July, Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm. The exhibition brings together a selection of Bibi's work for the British newspaper
between 2014 and 2021, mixed media illustrations in DIN A4 size.
The author has pointed out that these are "original illustrations in capital letters": "I like to get my hands dirty, I don't use a computer. You can see the traces of the sketch, the marks of the drawing".
The deputy mayor in charge of Culture, Manuel Mas, emphasised that JoanArt is "the desire to bring art to the street, whether it be exhibitions or workshops for children to workshops for children to enjoy".
Also on Friday 21st in Can Verger, in Calvià Vila, there will be a meeting with a reading of stories and poems with the voices of Maria Antònia Torrens, Carme López and Mercè Pagès and the piano of Sergi Sellés under the direction of Bartomeu I. Oliver.
On Sunday the 23rd, from 6 pm onwards, street art workshops for all ages will begin in the Plaça de l'Església. It coincides with an art market with the collective Ou Verd and the creators Nino Pons, Rosie Nguyen, Joan Balaguer, Natalia Cajiao, Carlos Terroba, Emma García and Miguel Reche. Various live music performances have been programmed.
