War hasn’t stopped the Kyiv Ballet

The night before the war started, the Kyiv Ballet were preparing to go on stage in front of a packed theatre.

For the ballet company, as for all Ukrainians, their world was turned upside down. Based at the International Centre of Culture and Arts in Kyiv, they have nevertheless managed to keep going, the company having been formed in 2017 by Viktor Ishchuk, solo dancer at the Kyiv Opera Theatre.

Since then, they have undertaken numerous tours and performed across Europe as well as in China and Mexico, among others. Their repertoire includes classic ballets as well as original choreographed productions, and their current tour of Spain brings them to Palma for a performance for one of the great classic ballets - Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
