Palma's Carnival brought together almost 1,400 participants, who were full of imagination in troupes and floats. | P. PELLICER
Carnival is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, marking the beginning of Lent with parades full of colour, music, and joy.
In 2025, the main festivities will take place between February 23 and March 2, with major events in Palma and other towns across the island.
In Palma, Carnival is divided into two main events: Sa Rueta and Sa Rua. Sa Rueta, dedicated to children and their families, will be held on the morning of Sunday, February 23, 2025, transforming the city center into a fun-filled space with parades, children’s activities, and music. Meanwhile, Sa Rua, the main parade for adults, will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, starting at 5pm. Participants, dressed in elaborate costumes, will march through Palma’s main streets, including La Rambla, Carrer de la Riera, Carrer de la Unió, Plaça del Rei Joan Carles I, and Avinguda de Jaume III. At the end of the parade, prizes will be awarded to the most creative floats and groups.
In addition to the celebrations in Palma, other towns across Mallorca host their own parades and Carnival events, adding their unique touch to the festivities. For example, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, S’Arenal will hold its own Carnival parade. This celebration, organised jointly by Palma and Llucmajor, will take place at Plaza de les Meravelles, starting at 3pm. Watch this space for more details.
