Mallorca Day has been changed back to September 12, which is when it was originally held before being switched to December 31 for a few years - the consequence, for the most part, of politics.

September 12, 1276 was when Jaume II was crowned and, as importantly, issued the privileges and franchises which officially established the Kingdom of Mallorca. The events started on Thursday and continue on Friday and over the weekend. The focus in Palma for the three days will be the artisan fair at La Misericordia, the venue for concerts, folk dance and other performances.

An interesting event is a videomapping show of the history of Mallorca on Sunday. Because of the interest, bookings are advisable; it is free. Palma is the main centre for the celebrations, but there are events elsewhere, such as in Soller. The full programme is available at web.conselldemallorca.es.
