The Raluy Circus will return to the Island. | R.M.
The Raluy circus truly is a family affair.
The origins can be traced to 1911, when Francisco Raluy from Fonz in the Aragonese province of Huesca started to perform as a juggling act. It was Francisco's son, Luis, who laid the groundwork for what was to become a circus, his acts having included a car that did a triple somersault.
A stint with the Blackpool Tower Circus in 1972 was to mark further steps along the way. Having worked under different names, the Circo Raluy first appeared in 1987. It was actually the Circo Museo Raluy, an indication that this was a circus firmly rooted in the circus tradition.
But like many families, there was to be a conflict. In 2016, Luisa and Kerry Raluy left to form the Circo Raluy Legacy, while Rosa Raluy, her husband William and their sons Kimberley and Jillian came to be the Circo Histórico Raluy, which is returning to Palma in March.
