The Circa Contemporary Circus was founded in Brisbane in 1987.

Originally known as the Rock n' Roll Circus, its roots were part of a movement against the ultra-conservative premier of Queensland, Joh Bjelke-Petersen. It underwent change in style and name in 2004 when Yaron Lifschitz, a notable director of circus arts, became its director.

Since this change, Circa has gone to present over forty different productions and has attained international acclaim for its mix of drama, music and choreography. At the vanguard of contemporary circus in Australia, it has received numerous awards and has the assistance of the Australian and Queensland governments.

In Mallorca, Circa is staging Humans 2.0, described as a tightly woven choreography of bodies, pulsing with music and revealed in dramatic lighting. A review says: "A seriously sensational spectacle; as aesthetic as it is athletic, as comedic as it is grave."
