By contrast to the sweets of Esporles this weekend, Sant Joan offers savoury with its classic botifarró barbecue.

There are in fact two - one on Saturday evening, but the Sunday lunch is the grander occasion. This fiesta has a homemade feel to it, which doesn’t just refer to the making of the sausage. It was the creation of some local motorbike enthusiasts. The Penya Motorista had been organising the fiesta for fifty years when in 2016 they decided that they wouldn’t organise it any longer. Some internal disagreements, a lack of people to do the organising, other things to do - such as riding motorcycles and taking part in competitions - all conspired in the decision to call it a day.

The town hall, recognising a popular and traditional event, stepped in. Some folk dance and DJs have been added to the programme the motorcycle club still acknowledged as having been the organisation which founded the event in 1966.
