Àgueda, known in English as Agatha, is the patron saint of Sencelles.
At some time in the fifteenth century, Sencelles was enduring a drought. The rain came on the feast day of Àgueda - the fifth of February and her patronage was thus secured. She is also a patron of women suffering from breast cancer. For the fiestas, there is a special almond cake - the mamellete is in the shape of a breast and has a cherry to symbolise a nipple.
The fiestas feature a demons' correfoc (on Tuesday), and a big highlight is on Sunday. The parade of floats and costumes is almost as if Sencelles is getting Carnival in early.
