Binissalem’s Vermar grape harvest fiestas date back to the mid-1960s and to what was originally a private gathering for wine aficionados.
The idea for fiestas followed very quickly, and over the years the agenda has expanded to such an extent that there are now events throughout most of September.
The ‘classics’ of the fiestas include the huge grape battle (September 21 this year) and the grape-treading contest (September 22). The grape must from this contest is used as an offer during the religious ceremony. This will be on September 29, the second day of the wine fair. One of Mallorca’s most popular wine fairs, it highlights wines from the Binissalem DO region. This year’s will be the nineteenth wine fair.
