Thus once sang Will Smith, who didn’t have Mallorca in mind but might have, had he known about - had there been at that time (1991) - the mad fiestas of high summer. In Sencelles (Sunday), there’s the Embala’t, a battle involving two huge bales of straw and a great deal of water. Sant Llorenç (Wednesday) has the Granotada, with teams named after the Palma ‘hoods of Corea and Camp Redó.
And in Sineu (Monday) is the maddest of the lot - the Mucada, an all-day event inspired by the mythical Much, a bull-like demon who lives on the Puig de Reig. It starts early in the morning. Bars are supposed to close at 10pm, by when the thousands in attendance will probably not require any more refreshment.
