Pollensa’s fair can be traced back to at least 1784, but there is speculation that it is older.
This is because it is thought that it was held on the Sunday in November when Inca had a ‘Sunday of rest’ from its fairs - another reason, it has been argued, why the Dijous Bo Thursday fair came about. It quite possibly is older, but as to a theory that it in fact goes back to mediaeval times, this is pretty implausible. Fairs used to require royal privilege, and there is no evidence that this was ever granted to Pollensa.
Still, it’s an old fair and one which this year can boast its 41st Artisan Show. This is something which underwent transformation some years and showcases innovative artisan design.
