Mallorca’s oldest fair, Sineu’s, will be on May 5 this year.
As it is reckoned to be 706 years old, it has very much greater antiquity than Sa Fira in Santa Maria del Camí. Still, as the first official fair was on May 27, 1866, Santa Maria’s does have an impressive amount of history. It was more than 100 years later, 1971 in fact, that the fair was moved to its current date - the last Sunday in April.
One of the municipalities that comprises the Binissalem DO, local bodegas will be holding an event on the Saturday, when there will also be jugglers with fire and a correfoc courtesy of the young demons of the Factoria de So gang. The main day, the Sunday, will bring together elements that are typical of a Mallorcan fair, such as falconry and indigenous animals.
