The esplanade of the Parc de Ses Estacions that overlooks Plaça Espanya is hosting the Pirate Fair, the first street market organised by the Balearic Association of Street Vendors (ABVA) in this area, from this Wednesday until Sunday, from 10am to 10pm.

‘Normally, we organise our fairs in Passeig Sagrera or Parc de la Mar. This area is not so good commercially, and the truth is that it is not entirely profitable for us, but we do it to collaborate in the revitalisation of this area, out of a commitment to the city and the citizens", acknowledges María García, who runs one of the 40 food and craft stalls that make up the market.

‘Here you can have a fresh juice or a mojito, buy a loaf of bread or a coca, taste an empanada, a cheese or a kebab, and buy all kinds of handicrafts,’ says Juan Carlos Molina, in charge of organising the market, which will also be hosting amusements for children and adults on Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 8pm, including acrobatics, capoeira and acroflow.

‘It's a good initiative, which serves to offer the public a bit of leisure and to attract potential customers,’ says Juan de Egea, who sells all kinds of truffled products, such as oils, salts, sauces and pasta, as well as sobrassada and sausages. ‘The morning is going well, quite a lot of people are coming’, he says.

As the name suggests, the market revolves around a pirate theme, and the bait seems to be working. ‘I'm a big fan of pirates, and today is my birthday, so I've decided to celebrate it by dressing up with my friends and coming here. Afterwards we're going to Magaluf to see a pirate show,’ says Dani Márquez, exquisitely dressed as a buccaneer, while sipping a glass of mead granita with piña colada.
