Santa Maria's Vi Novell Fair | ANTONI POL
The idea for the Beaujolais Run was conceived at a dinner near Mâcon in Burgundy in the winter of the 1970.
It has become a grand event for a day in the wine calendar that is regulated. At one minute past midnight on the third Thursday of November, the French government permits the release of Beaujolais Nouveau.
There isn't quite the same ceremony surrounding Mallorca's nouveau. There is only one place on the island where they make a thing of it - Santa Maria del Camí, one of the five municipalities covered by the Binissalem DO designation of origin.
There is a ceremony on the Friday evening, but the main day for the latest fiesta for 'vi novell' is Saturday, when there will be open doors (from 10am) at seven bodegas - Àngel, Macià Batle, Ramanyà, Celler Jaume de Puntiró, Celler Sebastià Pastor, 7103 Petit Celler and Microceller Son Crespí - plus wine tasting, music and 'burballes' pasta dishes.
