Binissalem holds its Stone fair in the month of May. | E.B.

The Binissalem stone and artisan fair was originally conceived as a means of primarily showcasing the skills of local craftspeople who work with the Binissalem stone, which is technically a marble and comes in differing colours from dark blue to light beige.

It is predominantly used for flooring. There is still this element, but the fair has broadened in that there is stone from elsewhere and an array of designs and products.

Dry-stone work naturally features at a fair that the mayor, Victor Martí, says highlights the importance of stone to Binissalem, something that has shaped the municipality’s identity. Among the attractions is a correfoc on Saturday - the ‘dimonions’ (young demons) of Sa Fil-loxera de l’Infern.
