Maris Galicia is like an itinerant and never-ceasing promotion for Galician gastronomy.

Since 2009 it has been setting up in various Spanish cities, and the set-up is enormous. A grand marquee of 1,500 square metres accommodates 60,000 or so people during the stay in Palma, which will run until September 29.

Focusing essentially though not exclusively on seafood, the organisers say that the Mallorcan public has its specific preferences - langoustine and lobster, for example. “In this city (Palma) they like to eat well and eat quality products.”

Where the menu does branch out from seafood, it for instance incorporates ox on a platter with a variety of seafood. But it is the seafood festival, and there is really nothing quite like it for the sheer scale and for the fact that it can pull in people for more than three weeks.
