Conducted by Daniel Mulet. | Mercedes Fuentes
Originally commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of London in 1817, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, his final complete symphony, was first performed in Vienna on May 7, 1824.
A choral symphony, it is regarded as a masterpiece of classical music and one of the supreme achievements in the history of music. An instrumental arrangement of the final movement, known as the Ode to Joy, was adopted as the Anthem of Europe in 1985.
To mark the 200th anniversary of its premiere, the European Symphony Orchestra, the Orfeó Balear choir and soloists will be staging a performance of the symphony. Conducted by Daniel Mulet, the soloists are well known in Mallorca - Marta Bauzà (soprano), Begoña Gómez (mezzosoprano), Antoni Lliteres (tenor) and Sebastià Serra (bass).
