American big band feel in Manacor

Manacor has been holding a jazz festival. Weekly free concerts have featured local musicians.

There is another of these concerts on Saturday evening, but there is also a major concert with an international feel. American Maria Schneider has won multiple Grammy Awards. Pianist and band leader, she originally worked with the legendary Gil Evans after graduating from the Eastman School of Music in the mid-80s.

In Manacor she will be with the Clasijazz Big Band, which was created in 2017 by another legendary musician, Mike Gibbs. The trombonist and jazz composer, who doesn’t play with the band, is known for collaborations over the years with leading artists such as vibraphonist Gary Burton as well as with great names from the British scene, e.g. John Dankworth and Mike Westbrook. Another concert which proves just how dynamic the jazz scene is in Mallorca.
